Panthers vs Texans Recap: Five winners and four losers from Carolina’s 27-17 win

The Panthers beat the Texans 27-17 in last night’s preseason opener. While the team as a whole played well, there were a few players who stood out, both good and bad. Let’s take a look at some winners and losers from last night’s game.


Christian McCaffrey

The Panthers’ first round pick did not disappoint last night when he showed that he can run between the tackles in the NFL. His action was limited, but he shined in his brief stint on the field with seven carries for 33 yards. He also put his speed on display by sprinting around the edge to pick up a nice gain on one of his carries. He’s definitely going to be fun to watch any time he’s on the field for the Panthers.

Damiere Byrd

Damiere Byrd made a very strong case for a roster spot last night after an impressive two touchdown performance. He showed he can get behind the defense en route to a 50-yard score from Joe Webb, and also looked impressive in the red zone on his second touchdown.
