Panthers hire Gettleman as GM

After more than six weeks without a general manager, the Carolina Panthers have finally found their man.
New York Giants executive Dave Gettleman will succeed Marty Harney as GM, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
Gettleman, 61, served as the Giants' senior pro personnel analyst last season after working as Director of Pro Personnel the previous 13 years.
He worked together with former New York general manager Ernie Accorsi, who was hired as a consultant in the Panthers' GM search in November.
Gettleman's track record is extremely impressive. He has been a part of six Super Bowl teams, including three Super Bowl champions – the 1997 Denver Broncos and the 2007 and 2011 Giants.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson believes that championship experience is just what his team needs.
“I was very impressed with Dave’s experience and think he will be a very good fit for our organization,” Richardson said in a team statement. “He has an extensive background in personnel and comes from an organization in the New York Giants that I hold in high regard, and he played an instrumental role in their success.”
Gettleman is chomping at the bit to get started in his new role.
“I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to work in the Panthers organization,” Gettleman said in the release. “It is similar to the Giants organization in which I have had the privilege of working the last 15 years and has a lot of pieces in place for success. I am excited about getting started.”
Gettleman was chosen over Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross, Tennessee Titans vice president of pro personnel Luke Dawson, Montreal Alouettes general manager Jim Popp and interim general manager Brandon Beane.
The specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Chudzinski interviews for Browns head-coaching vacancy
Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzkinski interviewed with the Cleveland Browns head coaching vacancy on Wednesday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Chudzinski has ties to Cleveland, having served as the team's offensive coordinator from 2007-2008 and the tight end coach in 2004.
The Browns have interviewed several candidates since firing head coach Pat Shurmur after the season, including Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman and University of Oregon head coach Chip Kelly.
Chudzinski was interviewed for the vacant head coaching jobs in Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and St. Louis last season, but each team ultimately went in a different direction.
