According to ESPN's Pat Yasinkas, a person close to the Carolina Panthers has confirmed that owner Jerry Richardson has scheduled a meeting with head coach Ron Rivera to discuss his future with the team.

Rivera's fate looked to be all but sealed after the up-and-coming Panthers nosedived to a 2-8 start this season. General manager Marty Hurney was shown the door in late October, and most people assumed finishing out the season was simply a formality for the sophomore head coach.

But the Panthers ended the season by winning four straight games, and five of their last six, to finish at 7-9. Remarkably, the team not only bested their 2011 record by one game, but also earned second place in the NFC South.

This sizzling-hot finish has forced Richardson to reevaluate the entire coaching situation.

Rivera, who is 13-19 in two seasons in Carolina, has two years left on a four-year contract.
