For the Carolina Panthers, injuries are the gift that keeps on giving this holiday season.

For Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, the team will be without at least three starters: running back Jonathan Stewart, center Geoff Hangartner and defensive tackle Dwan Edwards.

Two more starters, wide receiver Brandon LaFell (turf toe) and outside linebacker James Anderson, currently have the ever-frustrating questionable designation. Backup safety and special teamer Colin Jones is also questionable for Sunday's game.

Stewart has been nursing a high ankle sprain and will sit out for the third straight week. Edwards missed will miss his second straight game with a wrist injury. Hangartner sprained his foot against the Falcons, and team trainers want to hold him out as simply as precaution, according to the Charlotte Observer.

With Stewart out, DeAngelo Williams will shoulder the load at running back. The unimpressive Jeff Byers will take over at center and Andre Neblett, Frank Kearse and Sione Fua will likely split the defensive tackle duties.

Over the last two seasons, the team has placed an eye-popping 34 players on injured reserve.

The good news: The Panthers demolished the 11-win Atlanta Falcons last week without five starters. If they can do that, they should be able to compete with the 5-8 San Diego Chargers without three.
