With the Carolina Panthers season already in the garbage can through just seven games, there is talk swirling about the team trading two offensive veterans, running back DeAngelo Williams and wide receiver Steve Smith.

On Tuesday, the Charlotte Observer reported that an NFC team inquired about Smith, but no further discussions have taken place.

The 33-year-old wideout has spent his entire career with the Panthers, and is the franchise's all-time receiving leader and longest-tenured player.

Most people expected Smith to finish his career in Carolina after he signed a three-year, $18 million extension this offseason.

Williams, who signed a 5-year, $43 million extension in July, drew interest from multiple teams last week, according to the Observer.

The 29-year-old Williams was replaced in the starting lineup by Jonathan Stewart last week and seems to be the likeliest candidate to be dealt.

Nonetheless, head coach Ron Rivera has maintained that the team isn't looking to make any moves.

The trade deadline is Thursday at 4 p.m.
